Ingredients

  • 2 Navel Orange Medium Size
  • 2.5 cups Sugar
  • 4 cups Water

Instructions

  • Clean the peals of the oranges thoroughly. Proceed to slice the oranges in thin rounds.
  • Bring 2 cups of water to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add the Navel Orange slices and allow them to boil for 2 minutes, which helps to reduce any bitterness from the pith (white part of the rind).
  • Remove the oranges from the boiling water and immediately submerge them in ice water, ensuring they cool down rapidly.
  • In a separate pot, bring 2 cups of water to a simmer and dissolve 2 cups of sugar into it. Optionally, you can add a touch of vanilla extract for extra flavor.
  • Once the sugar has completely dissolved, gently place the oranges into the simmering syrup. Let them simmer for 45-60 minutes, ensuring you flip them every 15 minutes to evenly coat them.
  • As soon as the orange rinds begin to appear translucent, carefully remove the oranges from the syrup.
  • Place the candied oranges on a sheet of wax paper and allow them to dry overnight.
  • Once dried, coat the oranges in sugar and store them in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. (Although I must admit, they are so delicious that they rarely last that long...)

Notes

I hope you enjoy making and savoring these homemade candied oranges. They are a delightful treat that adds a touch of sweetness to any occasion.
